1. Lucky Day

It’s been a while since I played the game

But my hands are steady and my nerve’s the same

And I’m here at the table to lay my money down

I’ve had a few bad years I know

But I’m back again and I’m ready to go

Cos this one last game is gonna turn my life around

Chorus. I’ve made some plans. All I need is a few good hands

So mister won’t you deal so we can play

Times have all been hard; but let me see those cards

Cos I can tell, this is my lucky day.

I’ve learned the game and I know the odds

And I’ve prayed to any number of different gods

So luck and science – both are on my side.

And I’m feeling as sharp as a new-made knife

I’ll bet my money and I’ll bet my life

Cos the gypsy told me – tonight will turn the tide.

And I know you never draw to an inside straight

But I’m flying high so I’m tempting fate

And any minute now I’m going to bet the stack.

Come the dawn I’ll be round at Mary’s place

With my pockets full and a smiling face

And she’ll open the door and I know she’ll take me back.

The dealer’s hands are smooth and slick

Still I’m pretty sure that this game ain’t fixed

And besides, you know, it’s the only game in town…

Soon Mary and me we’re going to ride away

To a better place and a brand new day

And she’ll know that this time I won’t let her down.

It’s been a while since I played the game

But my hands are steady and my nerve’s the same

And this one last game is gonna turn my life around
